What is Tooth Luxation?

A partial separation of the tooth from its socket is called Tooth Luxation. It can occur from facial trauma or a pet biting on a moving object. Tooth Luxation can be treated with either extraction or by restoring the tooth to its original position and then performing root canal therapy.

What is an Oronasal Fistula?

An Oronasal Fistula, commonly referred to as ONF, is an abnormal opening between the oral and nasal cavities. Advanced dental disease can lead to infections that deteriorate the bone between the tooth and the nose. Common symptoms of an Oronasal Fistula include sneezing with mucusy or bloody nasal discharge and persistent bad breath.

What is a Palatal Defect in Dogs and Cats?

Palatal Defects occur in the soft palate, hard palate, or both palates and are openings in the roof of the dog or cat’s mouth. These openings can form after birth due to infection or trauma but can also be congenital (present at the time of or before birth). Brachycephalic dog breeds like pugs and bulldogs are more likely to experience congenital palatal defects.
